Toros Split Non-Conference Doubleheader Against Azusa Pacific

Carson, Calif. – Cal State Dominguez Hills split its non-conference doubleheader against Azusa Pacific on Monday, taking game one 6-3 before dropping a back-and-forth extra-inning battle 7-5 in the nightcap at Toro Diamond. The Toros' offense came alive in the later innings of the opener, while the Cougars rallied late to steal game two.

Game 1

Azusa Pacific struck first with a run in the opening inning before adding another in the second. The Toros responded in the fourth when Mireya Rico drove in Gaby Gandara with an RBI single. APU errors in the fifth allowed Alexis Aguado to score the tying run before Gandara forced another miscue to plate Julisa Gomez, putting the Toros ahead 3-2.

Dominguez Hills added three insurance runs in the sixth as Gomez drove in Mia Ayala before Kaylee Hull launched a two-run home run to center field. Alivia Holden closed out the game in the circle, allowing one unearned run in relief while picking up her fifth win of the season.

The Toros jumped ahead early with three runs in the first as Rico laced a two-run double to left center before Torie Au added an RBI single. Hull extended the lead with her second home run of the day in the fourth, making it 4-1.

Azusa Pacific chipped away, scoring runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh to force extra innings. The Cougars took advantage of defensive miscues in the eighth, scoring three unearned runs to take a 7-4 lead. Aguado drove in Gomez in the bottom half, but the Toros' comeback fell short.
