SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team opened conference play with an impressive doubleheader sweep over Cal State San Marcos on Saturday, taking game one 8-1 before securing a 6-2 victory in game two. The Toros used explosive innings and strong pitching performances to improve to 5-5 on the season.
Game 1:
Trailing 1-0 in the sixth, Dominguez Hills broke the game open with a six-run inning, highlighted by a two-run home run from Noah Karliner. Emilio Barrera followed with a two-run triple, and Dylan Schumacher added an RBI single to put the Toros in command. Jared Anderson capped off the inning with a two-run single, extending the lead to 7-1.
Schumacher led the offense, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double, while Barrera went 1-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Karliner finished with a home run and two RBIs, and Anderson added two RBIs on a clutch single.
On the mound, Trysten Eddy pitched four strong innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out six. Julian Castro (2-0) earned the win in relief, tossing five scoreless innings and surrendering just four hits.
Game 2:
Dominguez Hills struck early in game two, plating four runs in the fourth inning to take control. Schumacher got things started with a solo home run, followed by a wild pitch that allowed Teige Barrett to score. Kaleb Castro added an RBI single, and Trey Winget capitalized on an error, scoring to put the Toros up 4-2.
Quinn Johnson added to the lead in the fifth with a solo home run, and Barrera later scored on a passed ball to extend the lead to four.
Schumacher continued his hot streak, finishing 2-for-4 with a home run, while Johnson went 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI. Barrett contributed a 2-for-3 performance, and Buckley added three hits.
On the mound, Justin Abercrombie (2-1) delivered a strong start, allowing two runs over five innings while striking out four. Joel Gaitan provided 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, and Barrett earned the save with a strikeout to close the game.
The Toros conclude their series against San Marcos on Sunday, with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
