HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros split the day with the Cal State East Bay Pioneers after winning the first game of the doubleheader before falling in the last game to close their series 1-3.
GAME ONE
The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros clinched a hard-earned victory against the Cal State East Bay Pioneers, thanks in large part to the outstanding performance on the mound by
Mariah Ramirez.
The game began with both teams showcasing their offensive capabilities. In the first inning, the Pioneers took an early lead with a doubled down the right-field line, driving in a run and putting them ahead.
However, the Toros quickly responded in the third inning when Ramirez smashed a powerful homer to left field, tying the game at 1-1. The momentum continued to shift in favor of the Toros in the fourth inning as
Alexis Aguado drew a crucial walk with the bases loaded, bringing in
Alex Davis and giving the Toros a 2-1 lead.
Ramirez, with a record of 8-5, delivered a masterful pitching display, going the distance with seven innings of work. She allowed only one earned run on six hits while issuing just one walk and striking out seven opposing batters. Ramirez's command of the strike zone and ability to generate outs when needed proved pivotal in securing the Toros' triumph.
Throughout the game, Ramirez showcased her composure and skill, effectively neutralizing the Pioneers' offense and keeping them off balance with her varied pitch selection. Her ability to induce groundouts and flyouts ensured that the Toros maintained control of the game's tempo.
GAME TWO
In a thrilling softball clash, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros faced off against the Cal State East Bay Pioneers, resulting in a hard-fought contest that extended into extra innings. Despite a valiant effort, the Toros came up short, ultimately succumbing to the Pioneers' late offensive surge.
The game kicked into high gear in the second inning when
Kaylee Hull of the Toros unleashed a powerful homer to left field, bringing in
Kianna Abellera and giving the Toros an early 2-0 lead. However, Cal State East Bay quickly responded in the same inning, with a double to left-center field driving in a run, narrowing the Toros' lead to 2-1. The Pioneers then delivered a crucial double to center field, bringing in two across the plate, swinging the momentum in favor of Cal State East Bay as they took a 3-2 lead.
The Toros battled back in the fifth inning, as
Kianna Abellera's single and subsequent advance to second base brought in
Gaby Gandara, knotting the score at 3-3. However, the deadlock was broken in the eighth inning when the Pioneers crushed a homer to center field, driving in a run and extending Cal State East Bay's lead to 5-3.
The Toros prepare for the Tournament of Champions hosted by Stanislaus State with the first day of competition set for Friday March 22
nd as they take on Central Washington with first pitch at 11am.
