LA MIRADA, Calif.- The California State University Dominguez Hills Toros fall on the road against the Biola University Eagles in game one of a doubleheader.
Getting the start on the mound for the Toros was senior RHP,
Pat MacDonald.
Anthony Accordino would get the Toros first hit of the contest with a single to left field and then Barrera would hit a home run getting 2 RBI, allowing Accordino to score. BU would also ramp up in the second inning scoring one run at the bottom of the second, the score in favor of the Toros 2-1.
BU started to pull away from CSUDH in the third and fourth inning scoring seven runs between the two inning while holding the Toros to zero runs.
Toros would fight back by scoring two runs in the fifth inning but were unable to stop the Eagles from adding to their lead with allowing them to score two RBIs of their own. BU would continue their high scoring by using a 5-0 RBI run, from the top of the 7
th inning to close out game one 16-5.
The Toros had one homer, six runners left on base, four RBI, and walked four Eagles. BU would have three homers with 8 runners left on base, 16 runs batted in, and walked two Toros.
RHP
Pat MacDonald would not have the best day as he allowed three hits and seven runs to cross the home plate in the 3.1 innings he pitched.
Coming in for reliever Junior LHP Bryan Kraft would allow eight hits and four runs to score in his 2.1 innings pitched.
Emilio Barrera would lead the way for the Toros with two RBIs , Garret Crenshaw and Jerret Garret having one RBI each.
Anthony Accordino and
Noah Karliner each added a hit with Accorindo scoring one run.
Jeffrey Ray and
Dylan Schumacher would also have one hit each.
GAME TWO
Game two of the double-header was much closer but the Toros would drop the game 2-4 in La Mirada. The Eagles would use a three-run 5th inning to put away the Toros and pick up the win at home.
Both teams would go back and forth scoring in the first three innings. The Toros would start the scoring early as Jeffrey Ray homered to open game two. With each team scoring one run each making the game 2-1 Toros, going into the fourth inning. The Eagles gained the lead 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning and would keep the Toros from scoring any more runs in the contest.
The Toros had five hits with four hitters left on base while the Eagles has eight hits and left five hitters on base. CUSDH added two home runs and two RBI and BU has one homer with four RBIs.
Starting pitcher for the Toros was Junior Utility player and RHP Evan Vasquez who faced 24 batters in the five inning he pitched.
Coming in as reliever was Sophomore RHP
Zach Geiss who only faced three batters in one inning.
Noah Karliner had a strong afternoon for the Toros during his three at bats he had two hits, one RBI, and one homer in the top of the third.
Jeffrey Ray would have the other homer on the afternoon for the Toros. He also contributed one run, with two hits, and one RBI.
Toros return home Friday, February 9th as they take on Fresno Pacific at 2:00pm, followed by a DH game Saturday, February 10th at 11am and 2pm.
