LOS ANGELES, Calif.- During an exhilarating night The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros secured a dramatic 61-60 victory over Cal State LA.
This victory brings the Toros to a balanced 14-14 overall record and 11-11 in CCAA competition to close out their season, while the Golden Eagles move to 16-11 overall and 13-9 in conference play.
The game kicked off with the Toros establishing an early lead, outscoring Cal State LA 18-11 in the first quarter. The second quarter saw both teams evenly matched, each putting up 17 points, but the Toros would maintain their lead 35-28 heading into halftime.
The third quarter, however, marked a significant shift as CSUDH found themselves limited to just four points, while Cal State LA would score 12 points, narrowing the gap and setting the stage for a tense final quarter.
Despite the third-quarter setback, the Toros rallied in the fourth, scoring 22 points and the Golden Eagles put up 20 points in their final push. The Toros' ability to rebound from their third-quarter slump and execute in the fourth quarter was critical to their tightly contested victory.
Asia Jordan dominated the court with a commanding double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 15 rebounds, seven of which were on the offensive glass. Shooting 9-17 from the field, Jordan's presence was felt on both ends of the court, contributing three assists and blocking three shots, showcasing her all-around game.
Nala Williams added 17 points of her own on 7-18 shooting, including two crucial three-pointers. She was also able to facilitate the offense with a game high six assists, along with two steals.
Hosanna Walker and
Malia Goldsmith also contributed valuable points in the victory. Walker, with a 2-3 shooting performance, ended the game with five points, while Goldsmith added eight points, shooting 2-4 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from the free-throw line.
With this victory over Cal State LA, it ends the Toros season on a high note. Looking back on the 23-24 season there were plenty moments to highlight. The Toros would have a home victory over CCAA top seed, Cal State Marcos who only dropped four conference games this season.
Nala Williams would break a 42 year old school record for most single game points, scoring 42 points in a win over Cal St. East Bay earlier this month.
Asia Jordan also surpassed the 1000-point mark and had a dominating 15 double-doubles on the season.
With a young squad the Toros will only be losing two seniors this season as they start to look towards next season.
