CARSON- The California State University Dominguez Hills Toros comeback fell short 5-8, against the Concordia University Irvine Eagles.
The match began with Concordia University taking an early lead in the first inning when the Eagles's sacrifice fly allowed them to score, making it 1-0. The advantage was doubled in the second inning as CUI singled up the middle, bringing another runner home, expanded the lead for the Eagles with a solo home run to left field in the third inning, putting them ahead 3-0.
The Toros fought back in the bottom of the third with a significant play from
Noah Karliner, who homered to center field, driving in three runs to tie the game at 3-3. Momentum briefly shifted in favor of Cal State Dominguez Hills in the fourth inning when
Emilio Barrera. doubled down the third base line, bringing
Alex Sepulveda across the plate to give the Toros a 4-3 lead.
The Eagles would double to center field driving home a runner to tie the game. Shortly after they would have a sacrifice fly ball that brought another runner home, giving CUI a 5-4 lead.
The Toros managed to even the score once more in the sixth inning when
Brock Denbo. singled to center field, allowing
Emilio Barrera to score. Yet, Concordia regained control in the seventh inning with two unearned runs.
CUI would score on a wild pitch, and they would also have a sacrifice fly that extended their lead to 7-5. The scoring concluded in the eighth inning when CUI capitalized on a passed ball to seal the victory at 8-5.

The series will continue for the Toros as they head to Irvine, Calif., for a double header Saturday, February 17
