CARSON- Calif.,-The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros women's basketball team kicked off the CCAA/GNAC Crossover tournament with a decisive 76-50 victory over Western Washington this afternoon at the Torodome.
The Toros built an early advantage, leading 18-14 after the first quarter and extending their lead by halftime to 36-25.
Asia Jordan led the Toros with 27 points on 11-of-18 shooting, including key layups at 9:05 in the second quarter and 7:49 in the third that energized the home crowd.
Teagan Thurman added a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, including a critical layup with 3:06 left in the fourth to secure the lead.
The team's defensive effort was equally impressive, with the Toros forcing 17 turnovers and notching eight steals.
Nala Williams, contributing 12 points and five rebounds, also connected on a timely three-pointer at 8:44 in the third quarter, expanding the Toros' lead to double digits.
Hosanna Walker scored 11 points and shot 50% from beyond the arc, helping the Toros maintain their momentum throughout the game.
CSUDH showcased both offensive depth and defensive tenacity, with their bench adding 22 points and key stops to secure this season-opening win.
The Toros will face Seattle Pacific University tomorrow at 5:30 p.m., also at the Torodome.
