Toros Secure 1-0 Win Over Cal State East Bay with Valenzuela’s First-Half Goal

CARSON, Calif.— Cal State Dominguez Hills edged out Cal State East Bay 1-0 on Sunday at Toro Stadium, with Sergio Valenzuela scoring the decisive goal midway through the first half. The win brings Cal State Dominguez Hills to 7-4-4 overall and 4-0-4 in conference play.

The game's only goal came in the 31st minute when Valenzuela took advantage of a well-placed corner kick, capitalizing with a low shot into the bottom corner. It was Valenzuela's first goal of the season and proved to be the game-winner.

CSUDH outshot East Bay 11-10, maintaining control throughout the match. Ramiro Rosas fired the first shot for the Toros just a minute into the game, which was saved by East Bay's goalkeeper. Mikey McKibbin had a close attempt in the 30th minute that went wide left, setting up the corner kick that led to Valenzuela's goal.

Defensively, goalkeeper Arturo Magaña recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season, making four saves, including a crucial stop on Aaron Farnan's shot in the 36th minute. Magaña also saved a penalty kick by Alan Gutierrez in the 54th minute, preserving the Toros' lead.

Logan Kaufman and Kenny Lee added offensive pressure in the second half, with Kaufman's shot in the 58th minute saved by Corona and Lee narrowly missing with a shot in the 61st minute. The Toros continued to press, earning six second-half corner kicks but were unable to extend their lead.

The Toros will next face Cal State Monterey Bay on the road on Friday, November 1st, at 7 p.m., aiming to continue their strong conference run.
