POMONA, Calif.— Cal State Dominguez Hills earned a gritty 0-0 draw against unbeaten Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday, thanks to a stellar performance by goalkeeper Kylie Yuzon, who made eight crucial saves to keep the Toros in the match. The draw moves Cal State Dominguez Hills to 4-4-4 overall and 2-1-3 in conference play.
The Toros faced early pressure from the Broncos, with Yuzon making her first save in the 5th minute off a shot by the Broncos. Cal Poly Pomona continued to push, recording 22 shots in total, but Yuzon stood firm, including key stops in the 32nd, 56th, and 80th minutes to preserve the clean sheet.
Despite being outshot 22-2, the Toros made the most of their opportunities. Lauryn Bailey had the first chance for CSUDH, with a shot in the 16th minute that sailed just over the bar. Alyssa Villalobos followed with another attempt in the 22nd minute that went wide left, but the Toros struggled to create further offensive chances against a strong Pomona defense.
Defensively, the Toros held their ground, with Isabella Ramirez, Kaila Tone, and Emma Arkus playing the full 90 minutes and clearing several dangerous crosses from the Pomona attack.
Yuzon's commanding performance in goal was crucial to the Toros' result, as she collected her second clean sheet of the season.
The Toros will return home to face Cal State San Marcos on Thursday, October 25th, at 4:30 p.m.
