CARSON — It was a match marked with intensity as the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros faced off against the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters, ultimately ending in a 1-1 draw, with each team asserting their dominance in the second half of the game.
The Toros showed resilience, with players like
Lauryn Bailey and
Cynthia Ramirez pushing the offensive front, with Bailey taking two shots and Ramirez with one of her own. Despite tight defenses from both ends and a scoreless first half, the competitive spirit was visible with each pass and every sprint.
The defining moment for the Toros came when
Fatima Arnold confidently stepped up to score a penalty kick at the 73:27 mark, securing the first goal of the game. Arnold managed three shots, two on goal, in only 18 minutes of play.
The Otters fired back and evened the scoreline with another penalty kick goal at 89:00. With only one minute left of play, the Toros were unable to break the tie, leaving the result a 1-1 draw.
The leadership and tenacity displayed by Toros' goalie,
Abigail Escalante, played a pivotal role in maintaining the competitiveness of the game. Escalante displayed unwavering focus, making four crucial saves over the 90 minutes and conceding only one goal.
Defenders such as
Gabby Morales and
Emma Arkus provided the much-needed stability at the back, playing the full match and ensuring a solid defensive performance against the relentless attacks from the opponents.
Angelica Taylor,
Isabella Ramirez, and
