LEXINGTON, KY – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros earned the 2023 United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award, apart of a record breaking 1,333 college and high school volleyball teams, announced Thursday.
 
"It's great to see the players hard work on and off the court be recognized" said coach Jen Adeva. "They are very dedicated to success in the classroom and on the court."

The award gives recognition to the volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, or a 4.1 on a 5.0 scale. The award was first given out in the 1992–93 academic year.

"To say that I am proud of these young ladies is an understatement," said Student Academic Success Coordinator, Kisha Calbert. "They consistently lead the department in successful academic terms and have maintained the highest GPA in the department since I arrived in Spring 20'. Going through COVID, return to play, a partial in person year and having the first full year back in person, these young ladies have not let any of this impact their ability to be successful in the classroom. I am appreciative of the support their coaches and families provide as well because without the village, we can't be successful."

Last year, the team held an overall GPA of 3.472 with two student-athletes holding a 4.0, and eight more earning a 3.5 or higher.
