ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros fell just short of a victory, losing 5-4 to the Azusa Pacific Cougars closing the 2023 season in the NCAA Div. II West Regional Tournament.
The Toros tallied an overall record of 36-19 and 19-12 CCAA conference record.
CSUDH started strong in the first inning, with
Jay Ross scoring on a wild pitch to take an early 1-0 lead. In the second inning, the Toros extended their lead to 2-0 when
Alexus Corona singled to left field, bringing in
Alani Nguyen.
However, the Cougars fought back in the bottom of the second with a run of their own, making it a 2-1 game. The Toros were unable to score again until the sixth inning, when
Nayah Pola grounded out to second base, scoring
Alex Davis and cutting the lead to one at 4-3.
The Toros tied things up, 4-4, in the seventh inning when Ross doubled to right field, bring in
Faith Hernandez. However, the Cougars took the win, 5-4, after hitting a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Toro close the 2023 season in the second round of the NCAA West Regional Tournament, hosted by Sonoma State in beautiful Rohnert Park.
