Baseball Hammers Cowboys to Sweep Series

CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team pounded 15 hits including five of the extra base variety en route to a 19-0 win over New Mexico Highlands to sweep the four-game set.

Aaron Greenfield, Anthony Accordino (pictured), Brock Denbo, and Calel Ellis each drove in multiple RBI while Julian Diaz tossed 5.0 innings of 1-hit ball, fanning six to pick up the win as the Toros move to 5-4 overall.

Accordino got the scoring deluge started in the first with a 2RBI single, with Denbo lacing a 2RBI single two batters later for a 5-0 lead, and Eric Smelko and Aaron Greenfield driving in single runs apiece for a 7-0 lead after one.

The lead reached 10-0 in the 2nd as Miguel Marin notched his second hit of the game to bring home three, with two unearned after a field error in the outfield.

An inning later, Greenfield went yard for an 11-0 lead, with Vincent Temesvary driving in a run in the 4th, and scoring himself on a passed ball.

Another error accounted for another Toro run in the 5th, with Ellis' shot to right-center gap bringing home another pair.  Greenfield followed with a triple down the left field line to bring Ellis around, before scoring himself in a wild pitch.

That was plenty for the Toro trio of Diaz, and relievers Chris Cornelius and Julio Lopez, who each went an inning in the win.

The game went 7.0 innings after the head coaches agreed to halt the game after 7.0 innings if one team had a 10-run lead.

CSUDH will travel to Azusa Pacific for a midweek game on February 28, before welcoming Cal State LA to Toro Field in two weeks.
