CARSON — In a thrilling CCAA conference showdown, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros clinched an emphatic 81-60 victory over Cal State LA.
The game, characterized by its intense pace and strategic maneuvers, saw the Toros trailing by a narrow margin at the end of the first quarter, 18-19. However, they rebounded in the second quarter, outscoring Cal State LA 15-12, nudging ahead to lead 33-31 at halftime.
The turning point came in the third quarter, where the Toros dominated with a remarkable 31-17 run. This performance widened their lead significantly, setting the stage for a commanding final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Toros continued their dominant streak, adding another 17 points to their lead against Cal State LA's 12. This solidified their victory, ending the game with a decisive 21-point lead.
Nala Williams delivered a phenomenal performance as she racked up 27 points, shooting an impressive 11-24 from the field and 3-8 from three-point range. Williams also excelled in rebounds, grabbing 11, with six offensive and five defensive, and contributed across the board with four assists, one block, and eight steals.
Asia Jordan also played a pivotal role in the Toros' victory, contributing 15 points. Jordan's shooting efficiency was notable, going 6-12 from the field. She also had a strong presence on the boards, pulling down 10 rebounds, and added three assists and three steals.
Hosanna Walker added 10 points, shooting 4-10 from the field. Walker balanced her scoring with a solid defensive game, grabbing four rebounds and dishing out one assist.
Amaya Snowden and
Joe'l Benoit both contributed significantly to the team's success. Snowden scored eight points, collected 10 rebounds, and had four assists, while Benoit also put up eight points, along with five rebounds and three assists.
Supporting the team,
Malia Goldsmith added seven points, and
Cristina Oliva and
Kylee Edgar each contributed three points.
The Toros' dominant performance was not just about scoring, as they displayed excellent teamwork and defensive effort, totaling 55 rebounds, 20 assists, and 19 steals.
