Box Score CARSON -- After playing 15 sets over the past two days during the Toro Classic Volleyball Tournament, Cal State Dominguez Hills seemed to run out of gas tonight as it suffered a 25-15, 25-16, 25-21 sweep at the hands of Chaminade University.
The Toros mustered just a .037 hitting percentage with
Ava Hurry pacing CSUDH with six kills.
The hosts played with energy and efficiency in the opener, taking a 9-4 lead on kills by
Camila Sanchez-Tellez and Mach Kirkwood, followed by a Chaminade attack error.
That's when the Silverswords awoke, going on a 13-1 run to seize control of the set en route to the 25-15 win.
It was more of the same in the second as Chaminade used that momentum to race to a 14-5 lead, all but closing the door on the Cardinal and Gold. The Toros got as close as six points down the stretch, but it was too little, too late in the 25-16 result.
The Toros looked to regain their fire after intermission, again taking a 9-4 lead. Chaminade, however, duplicated its first-set effort by storming back to knot the frame at 16, and hold three match points at 24-21.
The Silverswords were gifted the final point after a Toro attack error to send CSUDH home with the sweep.
CSUDH kicks off its CCAA schedule next week, hosting Chico State on Friday for a 5 pm first serve.
