DENVER, Colo. – Cal State Dominguez Hills had to overcome cold, rain and errors to survive an 8-6 win over North Georgia Sunday to force another game with the Nighthawks 30 minutes after to determine which team will meet Rogers State for the NCAA Division II Softball Championship.
First pitch is at approximately 6:20 p.m. PDT.
The game got off to a late start as rain halted the other semifinal game between Rogers State and UT Tyler. The Toros waited well over an hour in the locker room for the weather to lighten up, let the Hillcats and Patriots finish their matchup and warmup the pitchers. The game got started a 4:09 p.m. local team, two hours and 35 minutes after the scheduled first pitch.
Tied at 6-6 since the fourth inning, Kaylee Hull came up clutch with an RBI double to left to score in Chenoa Au from second and give the Toros the lead. Amara Labonog beat out a slow roller to record a hit and allow Hull to score and take an 8-6 lead.
The Toros collected an impressive 17 hits against three different pitchers. Hull went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Raquel Jaime also had a perfect game, going 4-for-4 with two doubles.
Alyssa Olague got the starting nod and eventually finished. Ashley Wies pitched 2.2 innings in-between. Olague was tagged with those six runs but they were unearned after five errors sprung the Nighthawks to life. Olague checked back into the game in the sixth and pitched shutout innings the rest of the way.
