Toros Hold Off Warriors to Lock Up No. 4 Seed to CCAA Tourney

TURLOCK – It was déjà vu all over again for the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team, only this time it was the Toros who had to protect a lead in the end as they escaped Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena with a 56-55 win over Stanislaus State to wrap up the regular season Saturday evening.

The Toros wrap up the regular season 13-12 overall, 11-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, their first winning conference record since 2015-16.

In addition to the win, coupled with Chico State's home loss to Cal State East Bay locked the Toros up as a No. 4 seed to the CCAA Tournament next week. Dominguez Hills will get a chance to seek revenge in the tournament as it will take on Chico for the second time in a week. The two will meet at Lumberjack Arena for the quarterfinal round Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

For the Toros, it will be the first time since 2019 that they will be entering the conference tournament. It will be the fourth time the Toros will play the Wildcats in the postseason, with the Toros leading the series 2-1.

Fans can visit the CCAA website for tournament information and can watch the game live on the CCAA Network. A monthly subscription fee does apply.

After Danyell Booker made a free throw to break the 55-point tie with 23.5 seconds left in the game, the Toros had to play defense the rest of the way, much similar on Thursday night when Chico State got a go-ahead basket with seconds remaining and the Toros' attempt to winning the game came up just short. It was the same story against the Warriors only it was the Toros with the lead. With the clock winding down in single digits, the Warriors made one last effort three layup attempts, one of which was blocked by Deejanae Poland. The Toros succeeded as the clock reached zero.

The freshman Booker scored a career-high 18 points and made 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season, with her first coming from opening night against Biola in November.

Auren Isaacson scored 13 points while Dawnyel Lair went to the glass 10 times.

Despite the win, the Toros had a cold night in the shooting department, hitting just 27 percent of their shots.

Stanislaus, meanwhile, shot 31.3 percent and was led by Liliana Marques, who scored 19 points on the night and had a dozen rebounds.
