Toros Silence Yotes to Set New Program Record of 8-0 Start

Box Score CARSON – The 2022-23 Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team has achieved something that has never been done before, at least in the NCAA era dating back to 1980, going 8-0 to start the season after the Toros routed Cal State San Bernardino 91-71 Sunday afternoon.

The Toros, who also improve to 4-0 in CCAA play, passes the 1984-85 team, which started 7-0.

Freshman Nala Williams has shown to be in a scoring rhythm. After dropping a career-high 22 points in Thursday's win at Cal Poly Pomona, Williams tallied 21 against the Yotes. She also went to the board six times.

Asia Jordan had a 16-point performance along with seven rebounds while Dawnyel Lair had 17 points and five rebounds.

The Toros had a solid performance from the fielding, hitting 51.5 percent of their shots. The 11 three-point baskets made was also a season-high.

It was a tight score game from the start. It wasn't until a 13-0 run in the span of 2:24 that gave the Toros complete control of the game, taking a 20-6 lead with 4:04 left.

Dominguez Hills ended up winning that quarter 28-16. The Toros went 10-for-15 from the field and 5-of-7 from 3-point range. The Toros had led for nearly 38 minutes in the game.

The Toros will step out of CCAA play and finish both the calendar year and non-conference schedule against two GNAC opponents, starting Friday with Western Oregon. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
