SEASIDE -- Sophomore sensation
Sulaiman Bah scored twice to lead Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 3-0 win over host Cal State Monterey Bay in the final match of the regular season, giving the No. 3 ranked Toros their 11th California Collegiate Athletic Association crown and first since 2015, as well as first-round by in the upcoming CCAA Championship Tournament that begins Sunday.
"I'm extremely happy for the program that the championship is back where it belongs," begins head coach
Eddie Soto. "The players and staff bought into a vision and executed.
"Although we're very happy and will celebrate tonight, our mindset shifts tomorrow to the CCAA Conference Tournament on Friday."
With the win, CSUDH earned the top seed in the tournament and will face the winner of No. 4 seed CSUMB and No. 5 seed Chico State, who face off on Sunday at 2 pm in Seaside.
Cal State LA earned the No. 2 seed by virtue of its 1-0 win over Cal Poly Pomona earlier today, forcing the No. 3 seeded Broncos to also play Sunday, hosting Sonoma State.
After seeing a stretch of three-consecutive ties in mid-October, the Toros got back in the win column on October 23 after a 3-2 win at Chico State, and punctuated that effort with today's shutout.
A contender for CCAA Player of the Year honors after claiming his fourth CCAA Player of the Week honor two days earlier, Bah scored what proved the be the only goal the Toros would need after taking a Martin Velaquez feed at the 29:19 mark and sending a low line drive to the back of the Otter net, good for his league-leading 17th goal of the year.
Velasquez then took his turn in the scoring column with an unassisted score at 32:47, before Bah finished off the hosts with another score in the 85th minute.
CSUDH, which at 13-0-5 overall and 7-0-4 in league play, completed the program's first undefeated season and outshot the Otters 11-8 that included a 5-3 edge in shots on goal, with keeper
Frank Aguilar making three saves in the shutout win.
