CARSON – There were 32 total shots and two frustrating teams as No. 2 Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State East Bay played to a scoreless draw in the Toros' final regular-season match at Toro Stadium Sunday.
Despite being unable to find the back of the net, senior goalkeeper
Frank Aguilar made only two saves to preserve his third full-credited shutout of the senior. It is also the ninth total shutout of the season for the Toros led by senior
David Aguilera.
In addition to Aguilar and Aguilera, the Toros also celebrated fellow seniors
Danny Hernandez and
Alfredo Garcia before kickoff.
With No. 14 Cal Poly Pomona beating Sonoma State earlier in the day, the Broncos now share first place in the CCAA with 18 points. No. 8 Cal State LA and Cal State Monterey Bay are also not that far behind those two teams, trailing by only three points. All teams in the CCAA have three matches remaining. The CCAA will take the top six teams into its conference tournament.
Dominguez Hills showed quite a bit of aggression on the attack, particularly in the second half which it recorded 15 in the second half, all which were stopped by Pioneer keeper Zavier Hajdukovich.
Michael McKibbin,
Sulaiman Bah and Martin Velazquez each had five shots on the afternoon.
The Toros will hit the road for the remaining three matches, starting with Chico State Friday at 4:30 p.m.
