CARSON –
Sarah Martinez scored her first goal of the season to end the scoreless drought, but the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team couldn't overcome Stanislaus State's aggressive offense as the Warriors bested the Toros 3-1 at Toro Stadium Friday evening.
The Toros remain winless on the season at 0-10-4 overall and 0-5-2 in the CCAA. The Warriors, meanwhile, improve to 6-3-4 overall while moving to 3-2-2 in conference play, keeping themselves in a three-way tie for fifth in the standings.
Although the Warriors struck first in the sixth minute, Martinez evened the score in the 28
th minute.
Kekoa Nelson got a loose ball off a corner kick and fed it to Martinez in the middle for the one-touch shot.
The lead didn't last long as Stan State scored the go-ahead goal in the 36
th minute and added insurance in the 74
th minute.
The Warriors dominated the shooting column 20-11 overall and 12-7 on goal. They even took 10 corner kicks comparing to the Toros' two.
Alyssa Newsom, the reigning CCAA Defensive Player of the Week, made a career-high nine saves on the day.
