CARSON – The last time Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer played a match at Toro Stadium, they took a 2-1 California Collegiate Athletic Association win over Cal State San Marcos. Six-hundred seventy-three days later, the two teams met again to open the Toros home schedule only this time it was the Cougars that came up with a 1-0 overtime win on a scorching Sunday afternoon.
Both sides were nearly even on paper. Dominguez Hills (1-1) edged the shot column 10-8 while both sides' goalkeepers, which features Toro freshman
Ashley Correia, made two saves. San Marcos, playing its season-opener, won the corner kick category 7-6.
But the one stat that mattered the most closed out the match in the 98
th minute. Cougar Sierra Moore launched a free kick about 25 yards out that found the upper right corner of the goal.
The Toros hop back on the bus and drive to the Central Valley to take on Fresno Pacific Thursday at 5 p.m. The Sunbirds broadcast can be viewed on the CCAA Network.
