CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team broke a scoreless drought at home, but the search for the first win on campus continues as Azusa Pacific scored three straight goals to beat the Toros 3-1 at Toro Stadium on a windy but clear Wednesday evening.
Lex Howard got the Toros going in the 17
th minute. She stole the ball from a Cougar defender, dribbled it into the left side of the box and chipped it over the reach of goalkeeper Bella Hara.
The lead lasted only five minutes as the Cougars (4-1-0) tied the match and grabbed the lead in the 33
rd minute.
Looking for a chance at the start of the second half, Dominguez Hills had a terrific opportunity to even the score at two apiece. In the 50
th minute,
Holly Kaemerle chipped a cross into the box where
Nia Thompson's to an open corner of the goal was blocked by a Cougar defender.
Azusa Pacific collected an insurance policy with a goal in the 60
th minute.
The Cougars won the shot column 13-7 overall, 6-2 on goal.
Ashley Correia had to make two saves on the day.
