Toros Forge Draw With Otters on Senior Day to Conclude 2021 Campaign

CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team honored seven seniors prior its final match of the 2021 season, ultimately forging a 3-3 tie against visiting Cal State Monterey Bay to conclude the 2021 campaign.

The Toros end the year with a 5-11-1 overall record, and 2-8-1 ledger in the CCAA.

The two teams rattled off a combined 11 shots in the first 45 minutes of play, with neither team having anything to show for it on the scoreboard.

That all changed after the break as the Otters took a 1-0 lead just 1:45 into the second half.  Senior Nia Thompson quickly equalized, however, taking a Sabrina Barata feed and sending a scorcher to the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

Twelve minutes later, it was deja vu all over again as CSUMB took a 2-1 lead in the 60th minute, only to have another senior in Patricia Rubio-Martinez connect for her fourth goal of the year less than three minutes later, courtesy of a Holly Kaemerle assist.

CSUDH capitalized on that momentum swing at the 67:48 mark as Kekoa Nelson notched her first goal of the year for a 3-2 lead, with Barata again setting up the score.

CSUMB, however, took momentum right back less than two minutes later on a successful penalty kick goal, which would account for the match's final tally.

The teams combined for seven shots in the two overtime periods, with each keeper making two saves in the extra frames.

Seniors Kelly Almazan, Bella Amezcua, Kaemerle, Haley McDevitt, Rubio-Martinez, Madeleine Simones, and Thompson were introduced prior to the match, before stepping on the Toro Stadium pitch for the final time in their collegiate careers.
