No. 23 Toros Split Doubleheader, Series at Stanislaus State

TURLOCK -  No. 23 Cal State Dominguez Hills split a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) softball doubleheader against Stanislaus State, Saturday at Warrior Softball Field. The Warriors took the first one 2-1, before the Toros answered with an 8-0 triumph in six innings in the finale.
 
Combined with Friday's results, the two teams split the four-game series 2-2.
 
The Toros are now 16-8 overall and 9-5 in conference play.
 
STAN 2, CSUDH 1
The Toros could only muster three hits for one run and fell 2-1. Sophomore Ashley Wies struck out eight in four innings of work. Freshman Clarisa Ramirez pitched the final two frames, retiring all six batters in order.
 
Stanislaus State got on the board in the first inning on a sacrifice bunt. The Toros were able to even the score in the top of the third. Senior Jessica Lane singled, advanced to second on Au's hit and came home on a deep fly out from junior Raquel Jaime. The Warriors responded right away in the bottom of the frame to retake a one-run lead.
 
CSUDH struggled from the plate in the final four innings with all 12 batters being retired in order.

The Toro offense came alive with 12 hits and was aided by four Stanislaus State errors for an 8-0 triumph. Ramirez got the win in 3.2 innings of shutout work with two strikeouts. Wies finished the final 2.1 with three strikeouts.
 
CSUDH scored three in the first inning. Senior Chenoa Au reached on an error, stole second, took third on a ground out and came home on freshman Dafne Bravo's double. Fellow freshman Kaylee Hull also got a hit to put two on and both came home on an outfield hit by Wies. Senior Jade Loe hit a solo bomb over the left field fence in the third to make it 4-0.
 
The Toros added three more in the fourth. Lane reached on an error and was plated on a hit by Au. A Jaime single put two runners on yet again and both came in on another clutch hit by Bravo. In the sixth, Au singled and came home on an error induced by Bravo to make it an eight-run game. Wies retired all three batters in order to end the game via run rule.
