LOS ANGELES - Aided by a four-point halftime lead, Cal State Dominguez Hills outscored Cal State LA 48-39 in the second half to secure a 79-66 win in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) women's basketball matchup, Saturday at University Gymnasium.
The Toros (10-10, 7-7 CCAA) had five players in double figures, with senior
Destinee Williams and junior
Janelle Sumilong leading the way with 18 points each. Williams added nine rebounds and two assists and Sumilong pitched in two rebounds, four assists and three steals. Freshman
Ariana Harper was right behind the two with 17 points. Senior
Dijour Ledbetter recorded a double-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds and three assists, and fellow senior
Ahlisha Henderson nearly came away with a double-double of her own with 10 points, nine rebounds and a block. The Golden Eagles (8-12, 6-8 CCAA) were led by Nicole Flennaugh's 18 points.
"This was a great team win," said head coach
John Bonner. "We had five players in double figures and we relentlessly pursued the rebounds tonight. Multiple players made contributions that don't always show up on the stat sheet and those things are needed if we want to continue to be successful on the court."
