Ahlisha Henderson scored 26 points – one shy from tying her career mark – and grabbed 18 rebounds as the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team erased a 16-point deficit and beat Fresno Pacific 85-76 at the Special Events Center Tuesday night.
The 16-point Sunbird (1-2) lead occurred in early in the second quarter. The Toros (2-1) did climb back and tie the game at 34 going into intermission.
The fourth quarter ended up setting the tone of the game. Trailing 56-46, the Toros went 12-of-18 around the perimeter and 13-of-14 on the free throw line to outscore the Sunbirds 39-20 in the period.
Destinee Williams completed the second rally by scoring an old-fashion 3-pointer with 3:32 left to tie it at 74. The Toros connected all 10 of their free throw chances to finish the game on a 14-5 run.
Williams also had a double-double, scoring 18 points while going to the glass a dozen times.
Ariana Harper contributed to the points column with 16, including 11 in the second half.
While shooting 42.1 percent, 48 of Dominguez Hills' points came from the paint and 18 were from second opportunities. The Toros also dominated the boards 50-31.
Jessica Malazarte led the effort for Fresno Pacific, scoring 21 points while Cassie Pisik had a double-double of 13 points and rebounds each. The Sunbirds ended the night hitting 35.6 percent of their field goals.
The Toros open the home part of their 2019-20 schedule against Bethesda Saturday at 11 a.m.
