Toros Drop Home Opener to Saints

CARSON - The Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team fell to Saint Martin's by a score of 1-0 in a non-conference matchup, Thursday at Toro Stadium. The Toros are now 0-3 overall. The Saints earn their first win of the season and improve to 1-2.

WHAT HAPPENED?
- In the 11th minute, senior Manuel Paez had an excellent opportunity to score a goal as he dribbled past Saints goalie Griffin Small and drilled a shot from the right side, but was blocked by a Saint Martin's defender before the ball crossed the line.
- In the 27th minute, Diego Galaviz's one-timer hit the post and went out.
- SMU scored in the 29th minute as Brandon Madsen's free kick found the lower left part of the net.
- The Saints had three shots in a row in the 52nd minute. CSUDH goalie Julian Tafolla-Cisneros was able to get his hands on two of them and the other was blocked by a Toro defender.
- Junior defender Robert Roosen nearly equalized the game on a header that was saved by Small in the 70th minute.
 
TORO NOTES
- CSUDH was held scoreless for the first time this season.
- The Toros held an 18-16 shot advantage, including 6-5 on shots on goal.
- CSUDH had a 17-0 corner kick advantage as well.
- Freshman defender Roberto Rivera played his second complete game of the season.
 
UPCOMING
The road doesn't get much easier for the Toros as they host No. 4 Simon Fraser on Saturday, Sept. 8. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
