CSUDH Defeats Sonoma State on Varon Golden Goal at the Stub'

CARSON - With 51 seconds remaining in the second overtime period, Johsua Varon came up big and scored the golden goal to give the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team a 3-2 win over Sonoma State in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup, Friday night at the StubHub! Center.

WHAT HAPPENED?
- The Seawolves scored in the ninth minute as Marco Barragan found a running Sebastian Santos on a through ball in the box.
- In the 23rd minute, Sonoma State's Anthony Gonzalez-Cruz received a red card.
- The Toros equalized in the 37th minute as Musa Ali took a pass from George Almeida on the right side and slotted it home.
- The Seawolves took the lead back in the 56th minute, once again by Santos.
- CSUDH equalized 12 minutes later as Joshua Varon's shot was saved by SSU goalkeeper Arturo Ornelas. Ramiro Palencia collected the rebound and took it to the lower right corner.
- With 51 seconds remaining on the clock, D'Morea Alewine dribbled up the left side, crossed it into the box and found Varon who hit a right-footed dagger off the left post and in.

- Roberto Rivera played a full match for the fifth straight game and has played a full match in six out of CSUDH's seven contests this season.
- D'Morea Alewine has played 75 minutes or more in all seven games this year.
- Ramiro Palencia scored his team-high second goal of the season.
- Joshua Varon compiled his second assist of the season. He now shares the team lead with Manuel Paez who also has two assists.
