POMONA – Senior
Daryl Donerson hit his first collegiate home run, a two-run shot in the eighth, but the Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team was routed by Cal Poly Pomona 7-3 in the second game of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series Friday.
The series moves to Toro Field for the 9/7-inning doubleheader to close out the regular season. Prior to the noon first pitch, the Toros will recognize their 11-member senior class at 11:30 a.m.
After the Broncos got a 2-0 lead in the second inning, the Toros did get the deficit cut in half in the third.
Kai Gomez was hit by the pitch with two down and scored all the way from first on
Esteban Ortega's double down the left field line.
Cal Poly Pomona would score in two more runs in the third, one in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to complete the seven-run day.
Ray Diaz couldn't quite repeat the gem outing he had against Stanislaus State last week. He went four innings allowing four earned runs on seven hits and two walks.
Willie Traynor also threw four innings giving up two runs but did strikeout three on 56 pitches.
The Toros gathered 10 hits including three from Donerson. The Broncos, meanwhile, had a dozen knocks.
