HAYWARD - The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team earned a 3-1 four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series win over Cal State East Bay, Sunday at Pioneer Softball Field. The Toros won the first matchup on Saturday, the resumption of game two 6-3 and the final contest 8-2.

CSUDH improves to 9-12 overall and 7-9 in conference play, surpassing their win totals in both columns from last season. CSUEB drops to 9-13 overall and 5-11 in the CCAA.

The Toros will have two weeks off before hosting San Francisco State for a four-game series, Friday and Saturday, March 16-17.

Game 2 - CSUDH 6, CSUEB 3 (Resumption)
CSUDH took down CSUEB by a final score of 6-3 in the resumption of the second game of the series. The game was called off with a 4-1 CSUDH lead after three innings on Saturday due to darkness.

Freshman right-handed pitcher
Alyssa Olague (5-5) got the win, throwing all seven innings and striking out four in the process. Junior outfielders
Damari Simon and
Doreen Corella both went 2-for-4 from the plate. Simon had two runs and one RBI, while Corella recorded one run and two RBI.

The Pioneers scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth to make it a 4-3 contest. The Toros got two insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Junior infielder
Jazmin Guzman drew a walk and advanced to second on senior designated player
Kayla Lock's ground out. Simon came through with a double to score Guzman. Corella plated Simon on an infield single.

Game 1 - CSUEB 8, CSUDH 0 (6 inn.)
CSUDH could only muster two hits and fell in six innings to CSUEB by a score of 8-0. Lock was responsible for the two Toro hits. The only other time CSUDH was able to get on base was when Corella drew a walk in the second. Olague (5-6) was credited with the loss in 5.1 innings of work.

The Pioneers did their damage in the later innings with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and six runs in the sixth.

Game 2 - CSUDH 8, CSUEB 2
Senior right-handed pitcher
Alyssa Valinches (4-5) threw a complete game and struck out six as CSUDH took the final game, 8-2, to win the series. Corella, Lock, junior catcher
Rachael Sandoval and senior infielder
Alexis Pintado all amassed two hits. Freshman outfielder
Kelcy Telles had three RBI and freshman infielder
Chloe Wenger recorded two runs.

The Toros struck in the top of the fifth. Corella singled and scored on Lock's RBI double. CSUDH got four in the top of the sixth for a 5-0 advantage. Sophomore infielder
Kendelle Messersmith drew a walk and was pinch ran for by junior
Lexi Madrid. Madrid advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from sophomore
Jessica Lane and Wenger drew four balls. Pintado's single loaded the bases and Telles drilled a single down the right field line to get Madrid and Wenger to touch home. Telles stole second to force a muffed throw by the Pioneers as Pintado scored and Lock singled to get Telles home.

After the Pioneers responded with two in the bottom of the sixth, CSUDH added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh with a two-RBI single from Pintado and a ground out RBI from Telles.
