Suniga Gets Toros Back on Winning Track in Twinbill Split

ROHNERT PARK – Nick Suniga surrendered two runs in the first inning and then tossed zeroes the rest of the second game to lead the Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team to a 3-2 win over Sonoma State to salvage a split in the scheduled twinbill Saturday. The Seawolves stole game one 7-6 in 12 innings after tying the game in the ninth.

The Toros, who snapped a seven-game losing skid, will try to split the California Collegiate Athletic Association series with game four Monday at 11 a.m.

Game 1 – SSU 7, CSUDH 6 (12 Innings)
Much like game two, the Seawolves jumped ahead 2-0 against starter Ray Diaz. The Toros sliced the lead in half in the second inning when Justin Morris singled and scored on Daryl Donerson's double to center.

The right-hander Diaz went five innings allowing the two runs on nine hits and four walks.

Dominguez Hills captured the lead in the fifth. Jesus Sanchez drew a one-out walk and Kai Gomez followed with his first home run as a Toro. CSUDH would take a 4-2 lead when Esteban Ortega hit a RBI double to score in Jordan James.

The Toros added a run in the sixth and another in the eighth to take a 6-2 lead.

Sonoma State began its rally in the eighth inning by scoring three runs and much like the series opener in the ninth yesterday the Seawolves loaded the bases with one out and scored in the tying run.

The Seawolves' winning run in the 12th started with a leadoff single followed by a sacrifice bunt and a walkoff double.

Both ballclubs combined for 29 hits, with Sonoma State slapping 19 of them. Jacob Musial made it through four innings of relief allowing two earned runs despite striking out three.

Game 2 – CSUDH 3, SSU 2
Both ballclubs got on the board in the opening frame. James hit a one-out double and scored Ortega's single. Ortega would eventually score on Justin Morris' base hit through the left side. The Seawolves got off to a quick start with back-to-back singles that eventually scored following a wild pitch, a RBI base hit and a groundout.

The difference in the game was in the visitor's half of the third. Ortega drew a two-out walk and scored on Stephen Kish's double.

Neither side could get a runner at third from that point on.

Suniga struck out two while giving up five hits. Seawolf starter Jackson Berumen made it through six innings allowing the three runs on four walks but struck out nine.
