SAN RAMON -- Defending California Collegiate Athletic Association Champion UC San Diego has been selected to repeat as league champion in a preseason tally of league head coaches, it was announced by the CCAA earlier today.  Cal State Dominguez Hills, which claimed its eighth CCAA regular season title two years ago but missed out on the league tournament last year, was picked to finish 5th in the 13-school field.

The Tritons, who also claimed the NCAA West Region crown last season, picked up 130 points and eight first-place votes, and were followed by Cal State LA and Sonoma State, who both tallied 118 points and a single first-place vote each.

Cal Poly Pomona picked up three first-place votes and a total of 116 points, coming in ahead of CSUDH's 105 points.

Chico State was picked 6th with 96 points, with San Francisco State (77), Cal State San Bernardino (73), Stanislaus State (51), Cal State San Marcos (49), Cal State Monterey Bay (33), Humboldt State (25), and Cal State East Bay (23) rounding out the bottom half of the league.

CSUDH had its postseason fate in its hands with two matches left in the 2016 regular season, but suffered a loss in its penultimate contest of the year to eventually keep the Toros out of the postseason.  This year, however, returns senior keeper Chase Gentry as one of eight seniors on the roster, with Emmanuel Corona and Angel Ayala highlighting the returning scorers.

The Toros kick off their 2017 season on Thursday, August 31, hosting Point Loma in a non-conference tilt, scheduled for 7:00 pm in Toro Stadium.
