Paez's Goal the Difference in Men's Soccer's Win Over Gators at StubHub Center

CARSON – Manuel Paez's third goal in the 73rd minute broke a scoreless draw and eventually became the difference in the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team's 1-0 win over San Francisco State at the StubHub Center Friday night.

The win improves the Toros to 10-3-1 overall and 7-1-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. In addition, the victory gives CSUDH 21 points and keeps it in pace with Cal Poly Pomona, which both teams are tied for first place in the standings with four matches remaining.

Chase Gentry earns his fifth solo shutout after making four saves on the night. The Gators (8-2-2, 3-2-2 CCAA) made 16 total shots with Ranier Plantinos making five.

The Toros made 18 shots overall, seven on goal. Leonardo Nogueira fired five to lead the pack.

After a scoreless bout, Nogueira started the goal in the 73rd minute by making a good pass to Paez at the top of the box, who then fired a shot past Gator keeper Peter Swinkels to the eventual match winner.

The Toros head back to Northern California for a pair of matches to Humboldt State Friday (12:30 p.m.) and Sonoma State Sunday (2 p.m.). With the devastating fires happening in California's wine country, stay tuned if the matches will be postponed or moved.
