Toros Swept by CCAA Tournament Bound Sonoma State to Close 2016 Season

ROHNERT PARK -- Needing just one win to clinch a berth in next week's California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament and two to earn the No. 3 seed to avoid top-seeded Sonoma State, Sonoma State scored twice in each of the first two innings of play en route to a 4-1 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills before surviving a 10-inning 1-0 contest on Senior Day to sweep the day and the series.

Jamie Duran suffered the loss in her final game as a Toro while Alyssa Valinches was the hard-luck loser in the nightcap, tossing 9.2 innings on 132 net pitches.

Sonoma State opened up a 4-0 lead after two innings to continue its momentum from yesterday's sweep, before the Toros finally got on the board in their final at-bat after Alexis Viramontes doubled home Madison Murphy to get the Cardinal and Gold on the board.

CSUDH managed just five hits on the day, with Jazmyne Cortinas knocking two of them.

The nightcap was a pitchers' duel between Toro Valinches and Seawolf Brielle Vidmar, with neither team able to generate any runs through the first 9.5 innings of play.

In the bottom of the 10th, however, the Seawolves capitalized on a leadoff walk to plate the walk-off two outs later, clinching the No. 3 seed in next week's CCAA Championship Tournament.  Jazmin Guzman and Damari Simon each belted two hits as CSUDH knocked seven in the game.

Next year, CSUDH looks to return all members of this year's squad sans the two seniors, led by the pitching of junior Valinches and the hitting of seniors Analisa Nicholson, Cortinas and Murphy, as well as sophomore Simon.
