Women's Soccer Blanked by No. 9 UC San Diego to End Road Trip

LA JOLLA -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team made one last effort to get a goal within the final minutes but the Toros came up short in a 2-0 defeat to No. 9 UC San Diego Sunday.

The Toros fall to 7-6 overall and 4-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Cardinal and Gold, which went winless on their four-match road trip, will look to use the final home weekend of the regular season schedule to stay in the conference tournament hunt. They host Cal State San Bernardino inside the StubHub Center Friday at 7 p.m.

CSUDH with 12 points is one behind idle Cal Poly Pomona for the final spot to the tournament. The Toros and Broncos meet at Toro Stadium Sunday.

The Tritons (10-1-2, 5-1-1 CCAA), who posted their sixth straight shutout, struck the first goal in the 17th minute when Kiera Bocchino's corner kick connected to Natalie Saddic at near post for the one-touch shot. The insurance goal came in the 58th minute. Katie O'Laughlin headed into the bottom left corner from a cross by Mary Reilly.

Elisa Martin had made 10 saves to best her career mark which she set at Chico State a week ago.

One of the best chances for the Toros to score was in the 75th minute. Ida Eriksson chased for a loose ball on the left side, sent it back inside where Kylee Patterson's shot was blocked.

Eriksson and Jada Thomas both had close chances that ended up being saved by Triton keeper Itzel Gonzalez in the final minute.

UC San Diego (10-1-2, 5-1-1 CCAA) dominated the Toros in possession and had racked up 27 total shots.
