First-Half Goal Stands Up as PLNU Takes 1-0 Win to Kick Off 2015

CARSON -- The offensive struggles the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team endured last season continued in 2015 as a score midway through the first half by visiting Point Loma stood up in a 1-0 decision for the Sea Lions, spoiling the Toros' home opener.

Despite allowing the match's lone goal, newcomer Alexia Flippen was impressive between the posts. The junior San Jose native stopped seven shots.

The Toros only scoring chance came from Katrina Cohen. A cross was sent high and the sophomore couldn't quite get a good shot as it sailed right.

The only goal of the match came in the 21st minute. Point Loma's Rachel Witz delivered a cross to Sami Swanson, who slotted the ball into the back of the net from the penalty marker.

Although the Sea Lions have been in control for a majority of the match, the Toros defense did a stellar job breaking any momentum Point Loma tried to create.

The Toros remain home Sunday as they welcome NAIA newcomer Sierra Nevada for a noon showdown.
