Volleyball Drops Two to End Coyote Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State Dominguez Hills regrouped from an earlier day sweep at the hands of Concordia University by taking a 25-20 first set against Westminster (UT), but the Griffins roared back to win the final three sets to keep the Toros winless on the second and final day of the Coyote Classic.

Earlier, the Eagles held CSUDH to a .054 hitting percentage while three Eagles went for double-figure kills as the Toros suffered a 3-0 sweep.

Breanna Golsch went for a career-high 12 kills in the four-setter while Dana Brown (pictured) accounted for 16 assists as part of 25 Toro putaways in the early match.

Against the Griffins, the Toros rolled to a 3-0 lead and never looked back en route to a 25-20 win, earning the win via strong serving by Brown and Rylee Kiger, with a Kiger hammer ending the set off a Brown assist.

WC took its turn seizing momentum in the second until a Griffin error allowed the Toros to tie the set at 11-11, with Claire Autry giving CSUDH a 12-11 lead. Westminster, however, went on a 9-4 run before taking evening the match at 1-1.

CSUDH never found its rhythm in set three after making three more errors than successful attacks, with WC taking advantage by holding the Toros to a .111 hitting percentage in the fourth to take the match 3-1.

Kiger matched Golsch with 12 kills, with Cathryn Lopez's 24 digs leading five Toros who saved at lesat 10 balls.

Against the Eagles, CSUDH totaled 25 kills while making 19 errors as CUI rolled to the win.

Kiger led the charge with seven kills while Brown added nine digs.

CSUDH will kick off its CCAA schedule on Wednesday, traveling to Cal Poly Pomona for a mid-week showdown at 7 pm.
