Garcia Tallies Career-High 31 Points in Toros Win Over Academy of Art

CARSON -- Shortly after the California Collegiate Athletic Association announced Breanne Garcia as its women's basketball player of the week Tuesday, the 5-2 guard went lights out again with a career-high 31 in Cal State Dominguez Hills' 88-82 non-conference win over the Academy of Art at the Torodome.

The Toros improve to 3-4 on the year while the loss snapped Urban Knights four-game win streak.

Here's Garcia's thoughts on this afternoon's tough win.

Garcia also came up a rebound short from completing a double-double. In addition, Imari Brown finished with 15 points along with five rebounds and four assists, Monay Lee had 11 points, seven boards and four assists while Ali Bettencourt scored half of her 10 points from the free throw line.

The Toros had also shot a season-high 54.5 percent from the field while holding the Urban Knights to 40.6.

Points off the turnovers were what kept the Academy of Art in the game, producing 19. Jasmin Guinn led the effort for the Urban Knights with 20 points, highlighted with 10-of-16 free throws. She also went to the glass 14 times for a double-double.

CSUDH went into the locker room with a slim 41-40 lead with the leading changing on two different occasions.

The Academy of Art led by as many as two early in the third quarter until a 12-0 CSUDH run put the Toros up front the rest of the game.

Matching its largest lead (15) with 1:55 left in the contest, the Urban Knights started to erase that large deficit and have cut it down to within six within the final seconds.

Prior to the contest, the Toros honored members of their 2014-15 CCAA Championship team with championship rings, and unveiled the 2014-15 CCAA Banner.

The non-conference schedule comes to a close after the holiday when the Toros partake in the Cal Baptist Thanksgiving Classic with Point Loma Friday, followed by the host Lancers Saturday.
