CARSON -- Perennial power and 21st-ranked Cal State San Bernardino hit a whopping .319 en route to a 3-0 sweep over the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team tonight in the Torodome, ending the Toros' 2015 season and ushering out seniors Dana Brown and Alijah Gunsaulus.
Riding a three-match win streak, the Toros looked to continue that momemtum by battling one of the top teams in the nation in the Coyotes, who secured the second seed in the upcoming CCAA Tournament.
CSUSB, however, would make sure they didn't overlook the Toros heading into the tournament by racing to a 6-1 lead in the first en route to a 25-15 win.
Set two was no different as the Yotes scored the first five points, keeping their lead hovering around five points until increasing it to 20-11 late before a 25-16 decision to take a commanding two sets to none lead.
After intermission, the Toros took their first lead of the match at 3-2 on a Coyote attack error, and tying the set as late as 10-10 on another CSUSB misfire.
The Coyotes, however, rode Abbey Vollkommer's serve to score the next four points to force a Toro timeout.
That seemed to inspire the home squad as Claire Autry's serve brought the Toros to within 15-14, with a Bridget Heins kill again whittling CSUSB's lead to one at 18-17 six points later.
Another Heins blast kept CSUDH within one point at 21-20, but the Coyotes proved too tough as they outscored the hosts 4-2 to take the 25-22 set, and sweep the match.
Heins enjoyed another solid match with 12 kills, while Morelia Castro pitched in 10 in the loss. Â
Usually dictating play at the net, CSUSB outmuscled the usually resolute Toros by an 8-2 block count, while serving one more ace than CSUDH.
Prior to the match, the Toros honored Brown and Gunsaulus before a vocal and supportive crowd.  Brown ends her four-year career as the CSUDH all-time leader in assists, also sitting 4th in block assists, 5th in digs and 8th in both total blocks and aces.  She also holds the top two spots for assists in a rally scoring season, and the 1st, 4th and 5th spots for assists in a rally scoring match while being a 6-time member of the CSUDH honor roll and a 3-time member of the CCAA All-Academic list with this year's honors coming at the end of the academic year.Gunsaulus, meanwhile, sits 6th in both career kills and attacks and is 9th in hitting percentage. In addition to also posting the 2nd best kill total for a single season and the 3rd most kills in a match during the rally scoring eras, she earned a 2nd-team All-CCAA honor last year and is a 3-time CSUDH honor roll member who made the CCAA All-Academic team last year, with this year's honors to be announced later.
