Chavez Header the Difference in 1-0 Win for No. 14 Toros Over Tritons

CARSON -- Embroiled in a scoreless duel with visiting UC San Diego nearly 20 minutes into the second half, Cal State Dominguez Hills' Brian Chavez connected for his first goal of the year to give the 14th-ranked Toros a 1-0 win over the Tritons in a key California Collegiate Athletic Association contest.

CSUDH improves to 7-1-2, 3-0-2 CCAA with the win on "Think Pink" day.

The Toros dominated the game from kickoff, tallying a 10-1 shot advantage in the first 45 minutes of play, forcing UCSD keeper to make three saves to keep the hosts off the board.

That all changed following intermission as Ali Nazari took a cross to the left side from Gabriel Rivera, and sent a screamer to the lunging head of Chavez to scoot by Triton netminder Cameron McElfresh for the game's first score.

True to their defensive style, the Tritons managed just two shots on the day compared to CSUDH's 17, with McElfresh tallying 5 saves in the Toro win.  Counterpart Chase Gentry repelled one ball en route to the Toros' third shutout of the season, and his second.

CSUDH continues its homestand on Sunday morning with an 11:30 am clash hosting Cal State San Marcos at Toro Stadium.
