No. 6 Toros Put Up Six in Dominating Win Over CS Monterey Bay

SEASIDE -- Oh, what a diference a year makes. Exactly one year and four days after Cal State Dominguez Hills' men's soccer team escaped with a 2-1 overtime win over a Cal State Monterey Bay squad in Carson, the 6th-ranked Toros put a 6-0 hurt on the Otters in this afternoon's contest to run their win streak to 13 straight, matching the streak put together by the 2008 squad en route to its NCAA Championship.

Gilberto Rocha, who had a goal and two assists on the afternoon, gave the Toros the only score they would need with a goal in the 18th minute, with Matt Michell adding two goals in a span of 42 seconds to cap the offensive explosion. Israel Murguia and Bruno Montini were credited with goals.

Rocha and Pedro Velasquez knocked in two goals in the 18th and 19th minute, respectively, and that was all that the Toros (11-1-2, 6-0-2 CCAA) needed to gain three points and stay in first place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings. CSUDH now has a four-point lead over second-place Cal State L.A. with as many matches remaining in the regular season, including upcoming opponent San Francisco State Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

The Toros were dominant in the shooting the department, putting 21 overall (14 on goal) in the book. Chase Gentry needed only to make three saves to preserve his fourth shutout on the year. The Otters (7-5-0, 4-4-0 CCAA) were held to 10 shots.

Rocha opened up the scoring in the 18th minute after receiving a cross from outside the box, he drew CSUMB keeper Evan Drake out of his post and slotted it into the left side of the net. The insurance goal was added one year later with Rocha helping Velasquez. Rocha tried to cross into the box but was blocked and Velasquez was able to get the rebound and send it into the upper right corner of the goal.

Murguia managed to get the third goal in the 34th minute, Bruno Montini gave the Toros a 4-0 lead in the 74th before Michell put the match out of reach with his pair of goals within the final five minutes.
