SAN DIEGO -- One match after letting a two-games-to-one lead slip away against power Azusa Pacific, the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team left no doubt after sweeping past Fresno Pacific to pick up its first win of the year before running out of gas in a four-set loss to host Point Loma in the final match of the Seaside Tournament.

Alijah Gunsaulus was the lone player to record double-figure kills (16), with freshman Claire Autry (pictured) posting the best hitting percentage amongst players with at least 2 kills (7 kills, .462) in the win to move them to 1-3 on the young season.

CSUDH got out of the gate quick against the Sunbirds, taking a 16-10 lead on a Gunsaulus blast.  FPU got to within one at 22-21 on a Toro error, before CSUDH scored the three of the final four points to take the 25-22 set one win on a Sunbird error.

Set two was more of the same early until the Toros turned an 11-10 deficit into a commanding 19-13 lead off the strong serving of Leilani Martinez and Korryne Kelley en route to the 25-18 win on an Autry hammer.

The Toros rolled to an 8-2 lead to open the third, keeping their lead at six points at 15-9 until FPU inched to 15-14 on a Toro error.

Behind Bridget Heins' serve, however, CSUDH extended its lead to 20-16 before putting the set and match away on another Sunbird error in the 25-20 sweep.

The Toros hit .235 as a team while holding FPU to just .140, notching four more kills and five less errors in the win.

Against the hosts, the Toros ran out of gas after a tight first two sets that the teams split, resulting in a 25-23, 23-25, 25-12, 25-16 Sea Lion win.

After dropping a close first set, CSUDH returned the favor in the second, turning a 4-3 deficit into an 8-5 lead, pushing it to 15-8 before the hosts scored seven of the next points to pull within 16-15.

A Taryn McCullouch hammer gave the Toros a 21-18 lead, and after a time out following a pair of PLNU points, CSUDH scored four of the final seven points in the 25-23 win.

Looking to take that momentum into the third by taking a 3-0 lead, the hosts then took over, outscoring the Toros 25-9 to take a two sets to one lead.

PLNU then used that momentum to take charge in the fourth set, turning a 12-10 lead into a 20-11 advantage before closing out the set in a 25-16 decision.

Gunsaulus led the Toros with 11 kills, while Dana Brown posted the team's lone double-double with 30 assists and 11 digs.  The Toros hit just .148 in the match compared to .312 for the hosts as three Sea Lions connected for at least 10 kills in the win.

The Toros will open their homestand and CCAA ledger on Friday, September 12, hosting San Francisco State for a 7 pm first serve.
