Gators Sweep Toros to Open CCAA Play

CARSON -- Visiting San Francisco State tallied eight more kills and three less errors in a 25-19, 25-22, 27-25 sweep over Cal State Dominguez Hills to begin California Collegiate Athletic Association play.

Hannah Warner hit .857 with 6 kills in 7 attempts in a loss that dropped CSUDH to 1-4, 0-1 CCAA, while SFSU evened its record to 3-3 overall and 1-0 CCAA.

The Gators took a relatively easy opener, out-hitting the Toros .243 to .050, making five less errors in the frame.

Set two was more competitive as the Toros held an early 12-8 lead on a Gator error, only to have the visitors inch their way back and knot the game at 16-all on a Toro attack error.

SFSU then scored four of the next five points to take control of the set, pulling away for a 25-22 victory.

The third set again was close throughout, with an Alijah Gunsaulus blast giving CSUDH its largest lead of teh frame at 15-11.

Much like set two, however, SFSU clawed back to tie the set at 16-16, with the two teams tying six more times, the last at 25-25 after SFSU staved off a set point.

That proved momentus as the Gators scored the next two points off of Bria Morgan blasts to seal the set and match for the purple-clad Gators.

Gunsaulus led the Toros with eight kills while Morgan led all hitters with 11 putaways. CSUDH led at the net with 8.0 blocks to 5.0, but SFSU's efficiency was the difference in the sweep.

The Toros' homestand doesn't get much easier as perennial power Sonoma State visits Carson tomorrow after dropping a 3-1 contest at Cal State L.A. earlier this evening.
