Brown's Season and Career Come to End at NCAA Outdoor Championships

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Senior Charlene Brown's quest to earn her third All-American award to conclude her final year of competition for Cal State Dominguez Hills came up short as the Victorville native finished 7th in her heat in a time of 56.85 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, hosted by Grand Valley State University and the West Michigan Sports Commission.

"Being in lane 8 was somewhat of a downfall, but with that said, I got out well the first 200 meters and tried to stay relaxed as I approached the final curve, but tightened up the final 100 meters of the race," Brown reflects.

Brown's time put her 20th of 21 overall competitors, and puts a close to an award-winning career.  Unlike the effort in the CCAA Championships that saw her earn the 400 meter title in a time of 55.41, Brown was over a second slower in a very competitive field.

Coming short of breaking the school record in the 400 meter dash, Brown has left a rich and indelible impression on the track program as evidenced by her 2 All-Americas, 3 All-Regions and 10 All-CCAAs that include 6 1st-team All-CCAA honors.

"My career at Dominguez has had its ups and downs, but definitely more ups than downs," Brown continues.

"I have learned a lot in these four years, met many different people and surpassed many obstacles.  Making it to Nationals all four years of my career is truly a blessing from God, and many people only dream, but for me it has been a reality.

"With support from my coaches, family and friends, I have continued to persevere, and have under my belt 6 CCAA Championships, 3 All-Region honors and 2 All-American awards, as well as a National Championhip ring to cherish forever," she concludes.

"This is not the end, but the beginning."
