Breanna Garcia Named CCAA Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK -- Junior Breanne Garcia capped her birthday week by earning her first-ever California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week honor for the week of December 1-7 as part of a record-setting two days, it was announced by the CCAA office.

Garcia led Cal State Dominguez Hills to a pair of blowout wins over visiting Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus last weekend, averaging 19 points, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 rebounds per game and posting a career-high 26 point effort against the Warriors on Saturday.

The now 21-year old started her Saturday with a bang, scoring 18 points in the first half to push the Toros to a robust 46-30 lead over Stanislaus, scoring eight points after the break when the contest was already decided and adding a perfect 9-for-9 from the foul line to put her in fourth place in the CSUDH record book for free throw percentage in single game.

On Friday, Garcia scored six points in each half as she finished 4-of-8 from the floor, setting the tone with a perfect 4-for-4 effort from the foul line to give her a perfect 13-for-13 over the weekend.

She also finished with a stellar .571 shooting percentage in the two games as CSUDH is one of five teams who enjoyed perfect 2-0 weekends to kick off the CCAA schedule.

The Toros travel 18 miles on Saturday to face cross-town rival Cal State L.A., with first tip set for 3 pm in the Eagles Nest.
