Garcia's Career-High 26 Points Leads Toros to Runaway 90-63 Win Over Warriors

CARSON -- Now that's what you call a birthday weekend!  After sharing team-high scoring honors in last night's win on her actual birthday, junior Breanne Garcia scored a career-high 26 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor as Cal State Dominguez Hills ran away from visiting Cal State Stanislaus in a 90-63 win.

The Toros improve to 5-3, 2-0 CCAA with the win, and into a 5-way tie atop the league.

"It was a great TEAM effort tonight and Bre was really effective attacking the basket and finishing shots as well as getting to free throw line," begins Goodenbour of her floor general, who drained all nine of her free throws to move into fourth place on the CSUDH all-time free throw percentage list for a single game.

"She has been one of our most consistent performers so far this season and she had an outstanding effort tonight."

Garcia was on fire to begin the game, finishing the first 20 minutes of play with 18 points as CSUDH rolled to a 46-30 lead at the break, with six points each by Julia Poecksteiner and Tayler Champion.

The lead hovered around the 15-point mark as the second half began, reaching 21 on a triple by Champion at the 15:28 mark.

CSUS cut its deficit to 13 five minutes later, only to have an Ashanti Sweezer bucket in the paint push the Toro lead up to 22 at 70-48 two minutes later en route to the 27-point blowout win.

The Toros shot a sizzling 62.1% in the second half en route to 61.8% for the game, while using a tremendous 43 to 28 rebounding edge in the win, led by Monay Lee with a game-high eight.

"Talia did a fantastic job of handling Stanislaus' press all night and controlling the tempo, and it was nice to see Tayler and Julia knock down some 3s with Kielyn being the difference maker with her tenacious defense," Goodenbour continues.

Champion finished with 14 points and six boards, Wilson with 11 points, seven boards and three steals, and Lee with 10 points.

Rayford, meanwhile, added nine points, seven rebounds and seven assists in the win as CSUDH held Stanislaus to just 32.1% from the floor.

"It was a really fun game to watch and a nice way to start off CCAA play," Goodenbour concludes.

The Toros travel 18 miles to cross-town rival Cal State L.A. next Saturday, with first tip set for 3 pm in the Eagles Nest.
