No. 22 Coyotes End Toros Season in 3-1 Decision

SAN BERNARDINO -- Junior Alijah Gunsaulus posted a double-double of 18 kills and 10 digs, but perennial power and No. 22 ranked CS San Bernardino hit .264 compared to .155 for visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills while making nine less attack errors en route to a 3-1 win over CSUDH on their "Senior Night," ending the Toros 2014 campaign at 3-23, 2-20 CCAA.

After a tight first set turned into a Coyote runaway win, CSUDH kept up with the hosts in the second behind the strong serving of Korryne Kelley and Dana Brown, tying the game at 19-19 late.

The Yotes, however, scored four-straight to take control of the stanza, and capitalized on their first set point on a Toro attack error to take a 2-0 lead.

CSUDH came out firing in the third, taking an early 8-4 lead on Gunsaulus' serve and kills by Bridget Heins and Claire Autry.

The lead grew to 15-9 on a Coyote service error, and stayed at six at 21-15 on an Autry service ace.

San Bernardino made a game of it with five-straight points to close to 23-22, but a Morelia Castro hammer gave CSUDH its first set point at 24-22.

The Coyotes held serve twice to knot the game, but a pair of kills from Gunsaulus closed the door on the hosts in 26-24 win.

The Toros looked to even the match in the fourth, taking another 8-4 lead and maintaining a 15-14 edge midway through the frame.

CSUSB then took over, scoring four-straight points to take an 18-15 lead, and four more to take a 22-16, bringing the Yotes to within three points of the win.

A Yote attack error and kill by CSUDH's lone senior Azieanna Smith brought the Toros close at 23-18, but a kill by Alexandra Torline gave CSUSB match point, and a Breanna McIntosh hammer put the game and match away, and sent the Toros looking forward to the 2015 season.

Autry added 14 kills with just two errors, good for a .400 hitting percentage.  Kelley led all defenders with 24 kills with Brown adding 17 in the loss.

Bidding farewell to just one senior in Smith, the Toros return all 13 underclassmen in 2015 led by next year's seniors in Gunsaulus, Brown and Kelley and seven sophomores who have a year of CCAA competition under their collective belts, looking to move into the league's upper echelon.
