Tough Season Comes to Close in 3-0 Loss at UC San Diego

LA JOLLA -- A tough season for the Cal State Dominguez Hills ended tonight at southern California foe and perennial power UC San Diego as the Tritons handed the Toros a 3-0 defeat in the final game of the 2014 regular season.

Freshman Cortney Coyle made her first collegiate start, picking up a save in the loss that ends CSUDH's season at 2-15-1, 2-9 CCAA.

Playing each of its last six games with its back against the wall, the UC San Diego women's soccer team put the finishing touches on an incredible stretch run to clinch a return to the postseason, grab
bing the No. 6 seed at the 2014 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship, traveling to No. 3 Cal Poly Pomona for a first-round contest this Sunday, Nov. 2, with game time slated for 11:30 a.m.

UCSD looked by far the better side from the outset, and with control of its own postseason fate, would not be denied. Redshirt sophomore Kiera Bocchino scored twice on either side of the halftime break, and Jordyn McNutt notched an insurance third in the 51st minute as the Tritons cruised.

CSUDH fired off 10 shots, but just three on frame coming from Jessica Parker, Sami Feinstein and Megan Guzman.

Coyle faced 19 shots on the night.

The Toros bid farewell to just five seniors who completed eligibility this year, and welcome back a strong nucleus that includes seniors in keeper Jennifer Ackerly, defender Katelyn Fregosi and midfielder Feinstein, as well as sophomore striker Johana Rosas who led the team in goals and points this season.
