SAN DIEGO -- In a tale of two wins, seniors Abbey Prusa and Whitney Lee led Cal State Dominguez Hills to a pair of wins to open the 2013 season, besting Azusa Pacific in a 3-2 thriller before dispatching of Texas A&M International in a 3-0 sweep.

With the wins, CSUDH moves to 2-0 in the promising young season.

Senior Abbey Prusa's 18 kills and 0.368 hitting percentage led four Toros in double-figure kills as Cal State Dominguez Hills kicked off its 2013 campaign in style, taking a 3-2 win over Azusa Pacific at the Point Loma Nazarene-hosted Seaside Invitational, and in turn, reversed its fortunes from a year ago after APU took two matches by identical 3-2 counts.

Tarryn Luafalemana added 17 kills in the 25-23, 19-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-10 win, with Whitney Lee contributing 15 putaways and Alijah Gunsaulus putting up a double-double of a match-high 23 digs and 14 kills, one of two players to achieve a double-double.

CSUDH hit .261 compared to just .165 for the Cougars, although APU took a decisive edge in services aces, 9 to 1.

Dana Brown assisted on 63 balls in the five-setter and added 11 digs in the marathon.

In the nightcap, Lee tallied 13 kills and a .550 hitting percentage in the 25-17, 32-30, 25-20 win as CSUDH hit .250 as a team while holding TAMUI to a .128 clip.

Lee was the only Toro in double-figure kills, but was one of three CSUDH attackers who hit better than .350 for the match.

Korryne Kelley led the defense with 13 digs while Lee added a pair of block assists to her statline.

The Toros continue the Seaside Invitational tomorrow against host Point Loma Nazarene at 11am, followed by a 5pm match-up against Montana State Billings.
